What replacement windows actually cost in Southern California

Most companies in this trade refuse to publish a number. That is not because pricing is complicated — it is because a vague number is easier to raise in your kitchen. Here is ours.

The ranges

Typical installed pricing

Installed, old units hauled away, standard finish work included. Permits, stucco repair, dry rot and structural changes are quoted separately because they are genuinely house-specific.

What you are replacingTypical installed rangeWhat moves the number
Standard slider or single hung$620 – $1,050 eachSize, grid pattern, glass package
Large or oversized window$950 – $1,600 eachTempered glass, egress, structural header
Picture, shape or custom geometry$780 – $1,350 eachRadius work, mulled combinations
Whole home (10–15 windows)$7,000 – $16,000Mix of sizes, install method
Vinyl patio slider$2,200 – $4,200Width, panel count, hardware
French swing door$3,200 – $6,200Single vs double, 3-point lock, sidelites
Bi-fold / folding door$7,500 – $16,000Panel count, span, header work
Multi-slide glass wall$9,500 – $24,000Pocket vs stack, span, glass size

Ranges reflect typical Southern California projects at the time of writing and are for planning, not a quote. Your written price comes from the free on-site measurement.

The three real variables

Why two houses on the same street get different numbers

1. Installation method

Retrofit into a sound existing frame is the fastest and least expensive path. Full-frame replacement — back to the rough opening — typically costs about a third more, and it is the right answer when there is water intrusion, dry rot, or you are changing the opening.

2. Glass package

A west-facing wall in Riverside needs a different Solar Heat Gain Coefficient than a north-facing wall in Long Beach. Speccing by elevation costs a little more up front and saves money every summer after.

3. What is behind the stucco

Nobody can price dry rot from a photograph. If we find it, we show you, price the repair separately, and let you decide.

Where a low bid usually hides the money

  • Stock sizing. Shrinking your opening to fit a warehouse size is cheaper for the installer and permanent for you. Our custom sizing is free.
  • Glass excluded from the warranty. The most common failure, quietly moved onto your side of the ledger.
  • Finish work not included. Ask specifically whether interior stops, exterior sealing and stucco patch are in the number.
  • Disposal. Hauling away old units should not be a line item added later.
  • Permits. If the quote assumes no permit, ask why — most Southern California cities require one.

Every one of those is included and itemised in what we hand you, so you can compare bids on the same basis.

FAQ

Cost questions

Most vinyl window projects we quote land between roughly $600 and $1,200 per window installed — and the per-window number comes down on larger jobs, because a crew that is already set up at your house is more efficient on opening twelve than on opening one. Where you land depends on size, style, glass package and how the window is attached to the house. A retrofit installation into a sound stucco opening sits at the low end; a full-frame replacement with new trim and stucco patch sits at the high end. Oversized units, custom shapes and moving glass walls are quoted individually. We give you a written, itemized number before any work is scheduled — no ballpark that changes later.

Retrofit (block-frame) installs the new window into the existing frame and is faster, cleaner and less expensive — the right choice when the existing frame and stucco are sound. Full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening, which is what you want when there is water damage, dry rot, or you are changing the size or style of the opening. We tell you which one your house actually needs after we look at it.

No. Every window is custom made to your home’s exact specifications for a perfect fit at no extra charge and no extended lead time. We do not make your house fit a stock size.

Our windows and doors are engineered to meet or exceed ENERGY STAR standards in all climate zones and meet California Title 24. That makes them eligible for state and federal energy tax credits and for most utility rebate programs. We give you the NFRC labels and documentation you need to file — confirm current credit amounts with your tax preparer, since the programs change.
